Seven Regals Recognized as NFCA Scholar-Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Announced in at the start of October by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), seven Cal Lutheran softball student-athletes were recognized individually by the organization as scholar-athletes in the 2016-17 year.

To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have acquired a 3.5 or better grade point average (GPA) during the academic year. Seven member of the squad excelled in the classroom and on the diamond this year as the Regals posted 17 victories with a 14-14 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showing.

A 2017 graduate, Courtney Sooy, earned one final honor for the Regals while junior teammates Mikaela Mayhew and Makenna Pellerin also joined as upperclassmen. In her first respective season of collegiate softball, Lexi Findley, Kendall Marinesi, Olivia Serrano and Catherine Slabaugh each earned garnered recognition as well.

Additionally, the NFCA acknowledged the entire team, which combined for a team 3.29 GPA in 2016.  

In the spring of 2017, Findley, Marinesi, Pellerin and Serrano were each inducted into the CLU Scholar-Athlete Society as well.
