Brown Named First Team All-SCIAC, Rivas Lands Second Team

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.— Cal Lutheran men's water polo received two All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honorees as Ben Brown was named First Team and Andre Rivas was voted Second Team.

This is the second straight year the Kingsmen have landed two athletes on the All-SCIAC teams. From 2006-14, CLU also had at least two All-SCIAC performers, which is its longest stretch.

In his sophomore season, Brown (Chula Vista, Calif.) became the first member of the Cal Lutheran men's water polo 50-50-50 club as he snagged back-to-back First Team honors. The do-it-all left-attacker notched 55 goals, 51 assists and 51 steals for an impressive stat line. He led the team in all three categories and added 14 drawn ejections and 19 field blocks. Brown continued his historic season as he broke the single-season record for assists, while recording the seventh-most steals. He is just the third Kingsmen to earn All-SCIAC twice, joining the likes of Brandon Gross and Matt Heagy who did it three times.

Rivas (Escondido, Calif.) earned his first All-SCIAC award as he was named to the Second Team. The junior goalkeeper started 20 games in front of the cage as he tallied 203 saves. His saves total is the ninth-most for a season in program history. He now has 421 saves for his career, which moved him up to sixth on the all-time list. He added 18 steals, 12 assists and one goal. He fired a full-length buzzer beater into the back of the net at the end of the first quarter against Johns Hopkins. The goal gave CLU the momentum, putting them up 5-3, as the Kingsmen defeated the Blue Jays 17-11.

Cal Lutheran finished the season 14-13 overall and 7-7 in SCIAC play, just one game shy of the conference tournament.
