Four Kingsmen Tally Double-Digit Kills in Loss to Vanguard

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— Cal Lutheran men's volleyball had four tally double-digits kills, but the high scoring match went to the Vanguard Lions, 3-0, on Saturday night.

The Kingsmen put up at least 23 points in every set and two of the sets went over 25. The second set shocked Gilbert Arena as the Lions fended off the Kingsmen for a 40-38 win. Vanguard also took the first set 27-25 and the third set 25-23. 

Patrick Rowe led the way with 13 kills, Andrew Reina was next with 12, Justin Dietrich recorded 11 and Connor Hinthorn added 10. 

Blake Zingerman and Jacob Cudiamat helped share the ball and dished out 27 and 21 assists, respectively. 

Defensively, Rowe tallied eight digs and four total blocks while Reina recorded five digs. Dietrich also played a role at the net and recorded three total blocks. 

The Lions hit an impressive .514 in the first set as they grabbed the momentum going into the second. 

With Vanguard up 23-20 in the second, Cal Lutheran responded with a 5-1 run and took a 25-24 lead. The score was then tied from 25-25 all the way to 38-38. The Lions scored the final two points to take the well-earned second set. 

In the third set, a furious 4-0 rally at the end came up just short as Vanguard won the set 25-23 and swept the Kingsmen 3-0. 

Cal Lutheran hits the road again and this time is traveling to the East Coast on March 5-7. The Kingsmen start the road trip with Juniata on March 5 at 3 p.m. PST.
