Kingsmen Face Division II, Top-10 Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's tennis team continued its season with top-notch competition as the Kingsmen traveled to Division II Azusa Pacific on Wednesday afternoon. The No. 8 nationally-ranked Cougars defeated the Kingsmen 7-0.

The match began with doubles play, and Azusa Pacific swept, winning all three matches, to take a 1-0 lead. Darvel Lossangoye and Sean Yaghoubi came up short 6-4 at the No. 3, Jacob Bear and Corey Karen fell 6-3 at the No. 1 and Charlie Spina and Ryan Murphy were defeated 6-0 at the No. 2. 

As the match continued, the Cougars were too much to overcome. The Kingsmen fought hard, but the Div-II opponent won all six singles matches. 

Spina was at the No. 1 spot (6-4, 7-5), Karen competed at the No. 2 (6-0, 6-1), Bear was at the 3 (6-1, 6-0), Lossangoya played at the No. 4 (6-1, 6-4), Shawn Rothermel was at the No. 5 (6-3, 6-0) and was Murphy at No. 6 (6-1, 6-4). 

After six non-conference matchups, the Kingsmen dual Chapman on April 1 at home. When it comes to tennis, Cal Lutheran and Chapman are the only teams competing. The school's will play a best-of-five series, with the winner getting the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.
