Regals Cruise Past Occidental; Record 25-3 Run in Second Set

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's volleyball went on a 25-3 run in the second set as the they cruised past Occidental 3-0 on Tuesday night. 

The Regals recorded their eighth sweep of the year and defeated the Tigers 25-19, 25-8, 25-19. Cal Lutheran improved to 12-2 in conference and 15-8 overall, with their fifth consecutive win, and have already clinched a spot in the SCIAC Tournament.

With the Regals down 14-13 in the first set, they rallied for seven straight points and coasted to the early match lead. The trend of runs continued for the Regals. Down 5-0 in the second, the Regals went on a 25-3 run and won the second set handily. The long run of the set was 15 points. Cal Lutheran took all the momentum to the third set and ended the match in three. 

Sophia Muller and Maci Haddad led the offense with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Haddad continued to excel in attacking and recorded a percentage of .556. 

Tess Holbert and Jalyn Chun kept the offense moving as the duo split time at the setter position. Holbert had 16 assists and Chun recorded nine. Isabella Wade came up clutch serving and tallied four aces. 

Julia Trento was at libero and recorded 11 digs. Haddad and Muller were big at the net with three block assists each and Christina Williams recorded two. 

The Regals go for six straight wins on Friday. Cal Lutheran is on the road at La Verne with first serve set for 7 p.m.
