Regals Scare No. 1 Athenas in First Set; Fall to CMS in Three

CLAREMONT, Calif. . Cal Lutheran women's volleyball hit the road on Friday as they looked for an upset against No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Regals scared the Athenas in the first set, but CMS held on and won the match 25-22, 25-10, 25-18.

The loss snapped the Cal Lutheran's three-game win streak. The Regals remain in the two-spot for the SCIAC Tournament and are now 7-2 in conference and 10-8 overall. 

The Regals were up 18-14 in the first set, but a six-point run by the Athenas flipped the script. CMS won the set and carried that momentum into the second and the third.

Maci Haddad and Sophia Muller led the offense with eight kills each. Tess Holbert dished out 14 assists and Julia Trento and Muller served an ace. 

Haddad was strong at the net and tallied four block assists. Miranda Chan, Sadie Peete and Kira Mortensen recorded two blocks each. Trento recorded a team-high nine digs and Isabella wade added seven more. 

The Regals return home as they look to start a new winning streak. Cal Lutheran host Chapman on Saturday with first serve at 6 p.m.
