Regals Earn Big Win on the Road; Sweep Sagehens

CLAREMONT, Calif.- Cal Lutheran women's volleyball and Pomona-Pitzer were both ranked second in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) on Friday night. The Regals defeated the Sagehens with a score of 26-24, 25-16, and 25-20 and improved to 6-1 in conference.

Set one saw the Regals fight back from an 8-14 deficit and it was solidified by back-to-back kills from Maci Haddad. She finished the night with nine kills, and Sophia Muller added ten more.

Coming off of her 1,000th career kill last game, Haddad had a kill percentage of .600 versus the Sagehens.

The Regals dominated the second set. Tess Holbert put up 8 straight serves in a row, pushing the score to 19-13. Pomona-Pitzer gave up several opportunities that worked to the Regals advantage, ending the second set with a 25-16 victory. Holbert led the Regals in assists with 18. Jalyn Chun followed with 15.

Kira Mortenson helped the Violet and Gold defensively and finished the night with a solo block. Miranda Chan and Haddad each had a block assist.

In the third set, with momentum from two service aces from Julia Trento, the game was wrapped up with another two kills from none other than Haddad, ending in a 25-20 Regals victory.

Trento led the defense with 18 digs. Muller followed with 12 digs of her own.

The Regals return to Gilbert Arena to take on the Whittier Poets on Saturday. First serve will be at 6 p.m.
