Thousand Oaks, Calf. — Cal Lutheran women's volleyball fell to No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday night in Gilbert Arena. Scores for the matches were 25-23, 25-15, 25-10.

This loss brings the Regals' record to 3-1 in conference and 7-7 overall. The Regals competed with the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation, but the loss snapped their six-game win streak.

Maci Haddad recorded eight kills and four blocks. She now has 990 kills in her career and is approaching the 1,000 kills club.

Sophia Muller was next with seven kills and Sadie Peete had five. Tess Holbert kept the ball moving with 16 assists and five digs. Julia Trento led the defense with 13 digs.

Both offenses started strong as Cal Lutheran and CMS kept swatting down kills, trading points back and forth. The first set saw a total of 14 kills from the Regals. The first kill came from Haddad, and she would score twice more. Her teammates kept the kills coming as Kennedy Crane, Miranda Chan, Holbert, Peete, Kira Mortensen, and Muller all contributed to the offense. Even with the onslaught of kills, the Regals narrowly lost the set to CMS.

The Athenas carried that momentum into the second set and went up big, 19-5. They used the deficit to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Regals began the third set strong, determined to take the win. For the third set in a row, Haddad started the scoring with a kill. Cal Lutheran made plays, but it was CMS that took control. The Athenas took the third set and ended the game.

The Regals' defense fought hard as they made a total of 44 digs and eight blocks. Cal Lutheran's offense pressed on as they made a total of 119 total attack attempts, with 28 kills, and three service aces.

The next game for the Regals is on the road. Cal Lutheran is at Chapman on Saturday at 4 p.m.
