SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Continuing their run at the Trinity University National Tournament, California Lutheran University women's volleyball took on a double header on Saturday. The Regals fell to both Southwestern (Tx.) 1-3 (25-19, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19) and No. 18 Northwestern (MN) 1-3 (26-24, 26-24, 9-25, 10-25).
In the first match, Maci Haddad and Kennedy Crane both led the team in kills with 11, and Haddad had a kill percentage of .346. Miranda Chan was not far behind with eight kills on the match.
Jenna Jones had 16 assists with Tess Holbert right behind her with 13 assists, both trying to aid the offense the best they could. Jones also had two service aces, but it wasn't enough to take the match from Southwestern (Tx.).
Haddad and Christina Williams each contributed three block assists versus Southwestern. Morgan Given and Krane each added two. The set they won was ended on a kill from Given that was assisted by Jones.
Coming out strong in the second match, the Purple and Gold took the first set 26-24, however Northwestern was able to rally and win the next three sets.
Isabella Wade was the dig killer across both teams with 23 in the second match.
Kira Mortenson had five blocks in the match – leading both teams – showing a strong defensive effort to start. Haddad assisted her on two of the blocks and Julia Olsen helped out on one as well. Olsen had a kill percentage of .462 in the match.
Krane also led this match in kills with nine, Haddad and Chan each added seven.
Jones was ready to facilitate to her team with 23 assists, but the Regals were unable to play off her momentum.
Northwestern (MN) had the advantage of opportunities on offense having 60 kills to Cal Lutheran's 38.
The Regals look forward to opening conference play as they travel to Redlands on September on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
