THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis got back to its winning ways and defeated No. 39 Grinnell 6-3 on Monday afternoon.
The Regals improved to 7-2 with their second victory over a nationally ranked team.
They got off to a hot start in doubles. Cal Lutheran took two of the three doubles matches as Lauren Sebastian and Luisa Garcia won 8-6 at the No. 2 and Gerda Jucys and Henna Levanen won 8-6 at the No. 3.
Grinnell scored its first point as Reya Maestas and Carmen Bufkin were defeated 6-8 at the No. 1.
The Regals carried that momentum into singles and won four of the matches. Bufkin won 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1, Sebastian won 4-6, 6-4, 1-0-7 at the No. 3, Levanen won 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 and Kayla Kling won 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 6.
Grinnell took two matches as Garcia fell 4-6, 5-7 at the No. 2 and Jucys was defeated 6-7 (8-10), 4-6 at the No. 4.
The Regals hit the road for their next contest and are at Chapman on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
