BELTON, Texas – Cal Lutheran women's tennis started its Texas trip with a 7-2 win against McMurry University and followed it up by sweeping Schreiner 9-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Regals improved to 5-1 on the year. They have one more dual in Texas.
Versus McMurry, the Regals jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles. Mina Ahmadi and Henna Levanen won 8-2 at the No. 2 spot and Gerda Jucys and Kayla Kling dominated 8-0 at the No. 3. Lauren Sebastian and Reya Maestas fell 8-6 at the No. 1.
In singles, the Regals won five of the six matches, all in straight sets. Carmen Bufkin won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1, Luisa Garcia got a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 2, Jucys won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4, Levanan went 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 5, and Kling won every point, going 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6. McMurry won the No. 3 spot as Ahmadi was defeated 6-7(3) 6-2, 6-10.
Against Schreiner, the Regals made quick work. They swept doubles and won every singles match in straight set.
The match started with doubles and Bufkin and Maestas won 8-2 at the No.1, Sebastian and Garcia were victorious 8-1 at the No.2 and Jucys and Kling won 8-3 at No. 3.
Cal Lutheran carried that momentum into singles. Bufkin won every point, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1, Garcia won 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2, Sebastian was victorious 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 3, Ahmadi won 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 4, Maestas almost had a clean sweep, going 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5, and Levanen shutout her opponent, going 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6.
The Regals continue their trip with the University of Texas-Dallas on Monday at 8 a.m. PST.
