Regals Cruise Past Panthers; They Face Pomona-Pitzer In The Championship

Thousand Oaks, Calif. – The Regals had a convincing 4-1 win against the Chapman Panthers in the SCIAC semifinals.

The game started with a heavy offensive presence from the Purple and Gold. Danielle Vis found herself getting in the mix, causing a problem for the Panthers defense. Her speed and dynamic runs got her in behind the defenders, opening opportunities for the Regals offense.

Girls from all over the field found themselves in the attack. Katie Weaver and Ally Fisicaro, the starting center backs for the Regals, recorded a shot in the first 45.

Mandy Crawford was the leading shot taker and tallied three total in the first half, one of which was on goal.

Izzy Martinez came in for the Regals and immediately put a shot on frame. Martinez hit a well-placed volley past the Panther's keeper only to be cleared by a defender on the line. The Purple and Gold continued to knock on Chapman's door for the remainder of the half.

The Regals were awarded seven corners and placed seven out of 12 shots on goal.

Gabby Flores was on the goal line for the Regals but wasn't forced to make any saves. The defensive line shut down the Panthers offense and only allowed three shots in the first half, none of which were on frame.

They went into halftime scoreless but soon opened it up in the second half.

Less than two minutes in to the second 45 the Regals got their first goal of the game. Veljacic found herself on the goal line and sent in a line drive to the box. The commotion in the box led to an own goal off the Chapman defender.

Less than three minutes later the Purple and Gold found themselves back in the Panther's box. Veljacic ripped another shot on goal that was blocked by the keeper. The ball found its way back to Veljacic's feet and she buried it for their second goal on the night.

The Regals kept a heavy offensive presence. They continued to make runs into the box and were awarded a PK after a battle from Martinez. Weaver stepped up to take the shot and made the score 3-1. This marks her first goal on the season. She placed the ball in the bottom left corner and it hit off the inside of the post into the back of the net, giving the keeper no shot at a save.

To cap off the game, Vis' offensive efforts paid off and she put the nail in the coffin with a goal in the last 15 seconds to make it 4-1.

The Regals outshot the Panthers 24-8 overall. Flores collected one save on the night.

They head to Pomona for the championship game this Saturday. Kick off time TBA.
