Regals Grind Out 110 Minutes Against CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Regals soccer battled for 110 minutes against CMS and ended double overtime with a score of 1-1.

The Regals started the game strong and had four shots in the first half. Sonia Chan capitalized on a pass from Danielle Vis to put one in the back of the net. This marks her fourth goal of the season.

The backline played a solid 45 minutes and only afforded the Athenas two shots which keeper Gabby Flores tallied as two saves.

They headed into half time with the lead of 1-0.

It was a scoreless second half until the 85th minute when the Athenas were able to slide the ball past Flores to tie it back up. The purple and gold were unable to retaliate in the remaining four minutes and they went into overtime.

The Regals only produced one shot in the first overtime but only allowed one shot as well. The defense was reading all of the Athenas attempts making it hard for them to get a legitimate shot on goal.

There were five minutes left in the second overtime when center defender Katie Weaver came out with a huge save. It was just Weaver between the Athenas forward and the goal and she was able to block the shot. Her defensive efforts throughout the 110 minutes played a vital role in keeping CMS from getting the win.

Flores tallied five saves on the night and the Regals had a total of nine shots.

They return to William Rolland Stadium on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm to play Occidental.
