Regals Shut Out Banana Slugs 3-0

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Regals had a convincing 3-0 shut out over UC Santa Cruz in their Sunday afternoon match up.

It was a tight 15 minutes to start but the Regals were knocking on the Banana Slug's door in the offensive half. Elisa Shott was able to find the back of the net in the 19th minute to get the purple and gold on the board. Alexandra Fagerberg set Shott up for the goal.

The defense was able to keep Santa Cruz's offensive efforts to a minimum by staying connected and reading their passes. Santa Cruz was only able to get off two shots in the first 45 compared to the eight shots the Regals had.

The game remained at a 1-0 lead until junior forward Isabella Veljacic put one in the back of the net midway through the second half. Fagerberg assisted this goal as well, putting the Regals up 2-0.

Veljacic wasn't done scoring yet. Only seven minutes later she took the ball off the defender's foot and put another one in, marking her second and the Regals final goal of the game.

The purple and gold had a total of seven shots in the second half. Gabby Flores was protecting the net for the entirety of the game and was only forced to make two saves. It was clear that the Banana Slugs' offense was outmatched by the Regals defense.

They return home to play Wednesday night in William Rolland Stadium against Chapman at 7:00 pm. The Regals look to extend conference play from 3-0 to 4-0 in their match up against the Panthers.
