PASADENA, Calif. — The California Lutheran University women's soccer team opened conference play with a dominating win over Caltech on Wednesday night. The final score of the match was 5-0 with the Purple and Gold on top.

The Regals scored two goals in the first half and put the Beavers away with three in the second.

Senior captain Trinity Martinez was assisted by Avery West for the first score of the night in the 31st minute. Isabella Veljacic found the back of the net twice, once in each half. She was assisted by Dina Draguicevich on the first goal and scored the second goal via a penalty kick.

Mackenzie Boulware and Kylie Garcia put up to other two goals for Cal Lutheran. Boulware was assisted by Sophie Saiki and Garcia's scored her goal as she headed it past the goalie.

The momentum was never lost for the Regals and their energy showed on the defensive side as well. Cal Teach was held to just two shots on goal and seven shots total. Goalkeeper Gabby Flores had two saves on the night and earned the clean slate.

The Purple and Gold totaled 21 shots, 13 in the first half and eight in the second. Alexandra Fagerberg and Mandy Crawford each had two shots on goal to lead the team, but could not convert on their opportunities.

Despite the hot afternoon weather, it was clear that the Regals owned the offensive and the defensive side of the ball. Many young players saw the field and showed a lot of energy and strength as 32 Regals saw action.

Cal Lutheran will take this victory into their next match against the Redlands Bulldogs on Saturday at home. This will be the Regals conference home opener and starts at 7 p.m.
