PORTLAND, Ore. — California Lutheran University women's basketball had a tough shooting day as the Regals fell to the Puget Sound Loggers 83-60 on Sunday afternoon.
The Purple and Gold went 1-1 at the Lewis & Clark Thanksgiving Classic, after defeating Lewis & Clark on a last second shot yesterday.
Cameron Mallory had a team-high 13 points, and was the only Regal in double-digits. Naomi Gipson was next with nine points and Alyssa Maxey had eight.
The Regals shot 5-of-24 from three-point range (20.8-percent), 20-63 from the field (31.7) and 15-28 from the free throw line (53.6).
Grace Godines was the top rebounder, tallying seven, and added three assists. She tied with Maxey, Danielle Morgan, and Patil Yaacoubian for the team-high in assists.
The other stat to hinder the Regals was turnovers. Cal Lutheran committed 24 turnovers, allowing 24 points off them.
A bright spot for the Regals was 20 offensive rebounds, compared to Puget Sounds' 19, but could only score eight seconds chance points, as the Loggers had 17.
The score remained close early on, and every time Puget Sound jumped out to a lead, the Regals would fight back. The Loggers built some distance at the end of the first and took a 22-12 lead.
The Regals cut into the lead, slowly chipping away at the score, but were still behind 37-30 at the half. The third quarter was the difference in the game as Puget Sound used a run and went up 69-47. The Loggers didn't look back and took down the Regals.
Cal Lutheran continues on the road before coming home. The Regals are at La Sierra on Wednesday for a game at 6 p.m.
