THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University softball was bested by Chapman University 10-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers swept the Regals for the series as Cal Lutheran dropped to 1-10 and 1-4 in SCIAC. Chapman remained undefeated and improved to 10-0 and 4-0.

The Regals found themselves in an early hole. With Madison Gunn in the circle the Panthers scored one run in the first and four in the second. She pitched two innings and gave up six hits and four earned runs as she took the loss.

The Purple and Gold got one run back in third as they tried to cut into the deficit. Natalie Luna singled to start the inning. A few batters later, Gunn singled through the right side and Luna advanced to second.

Mia Onesto grounded out as both runners advanced a base. Due to a wild pitch, as the Panthers walked Alex Nyberg, the Regals took advantage as Luna raced home.

The Regals had a clean inning in the third as Mia Garcia pitched a perfect inning. The Panthers responded to her in the bottom of the fourth with five runs and finished the game in five innings.

The Regals next 10 games are all non-conference. Cal Lutheran host Carnegie Melon on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
