REDLANDS, Calif. — No. 4 Cal Lutheran Softball exploded for four runs in the bottom of the sixth, completing a comeback, and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to eliminate No. 3 La Verne from the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. 

Day two of the tournament continued on Saturday. The Regals walked it off as Natalie Luna delivered the final hit. CLU advanced to take on Chapman. The Panthers got the best of the Regals and won 8-3.

Sienna Perez pitched 5.2 innings against La Verne and earned the win. She struck out four during the hard-fought win. 

With the Regals down 7-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth, the Regals bats came alive. Three straight hits to start the inning had Cal Lutheran in a good position with the bases loaded. Courtney Haapanen drew a walk for a RBI, Madison Gunn singled for the next and Ariana Mendoza recorded another. 

After an out, Natalie Winokur hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. In the bottom of the seventh, Mia Onesto got the bats going with a single. After Ashley Membrere drew a walk, the Leopards intentionally walked Mendoza. Luna took care of the rest with a single. 

Moving on to the next game, the Regals looked to advance to the SCIAC Championship with a win against the Panthers. 

Chapman caught Cal Lutheran off guard and scored six runs in the first inning. The Regals got two runs back in the fifth as Madison Gunn and Mendoza each recorded a RBI.

The Pirple and Gold scored once more in the top of the seventh, but the deficit was too big to overcome as the Panthers defeated the Regals 8-3.

Cal Lutheran Softball ended its 2021 season one win shy of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship game.
