Regals Scare Redlands in SCIAC Tournament Opener

REDLANDS, Calif. — No. 4 Cal Lutheran Softball got a complete game from pitcher Sienna Perez, scored two late runs, and gave the top-seeded Redlands Bulldogs a scare, 4-2, on Friday afternoon.

The Regals and Bulldogs started off the double-elimination SCIAC Postseason Tournament and it was a thriller.

Perez went 6.0 innings and struck out two Bulldogs. She gave up eight hits, four runs, three of which were earned and two walks. 

The Bulldogs scored one run in the first, two in the third and one more in the fifth. 

The Regals had their chances as they outhit the Bulldogs nine to eight. However, the Purple and Gold stranded nine runners and found themselves in a hole. 

Cal Lutheran broke through in the sixth as Natalie Luna doubled to start the inning. After an out, Rilee Grau singled through the right side and there was runners on the corners. 

Lexi Brown tallied the first RBI of the game for the Regals as she grounded out to shortstop. Luna scored and Grau advanced to second. Regan Laubscher recorded the second RBI as she singled down the right line, scoring Grau. 

That was all the Regals could get in the inning and the Regals were three up, three down, in the sixth as the Bulldogs held on to win 4-2. 

The Regals continue the SCIAC Tournament on Saturday morning and face La Verne at 10 a.m.
