Faull Goes Seven Strong, Panthers Breakthrough in Extra Innings

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran Softball fought back after being down 3-0 in the first inning, scoring 3 runs at the bottom of the fifth, however Chapman regained the lead in extra innings with a final score of 11-3.

The Purple and Gold had great momentum in the bottom of the fifth as Mia Onesto led off with  single. Jamie Bingaman singled up the middle and the Regals were in business.

After Natalie Luna moved the runners over with a sac bunt, Madison Gunn delivered a single up the middle and Onesto scored the first run of the game. Regan Laubscher and Lexi Brown both added RBI in the inning.

The Regals had their chance to win in the bottom of the 7th. Ariana Mendoza recorded her lone hit of the game, a double, but the Regals could not capitalize on an opportunity. CLU stranded the bases loaded and the game went on.

Taryn Faull was terrific on the mound. She pitched 7.0 innings allowing just six hits, four runs, only one was earned, and struck out three. The three runs in the first were unearned, and after that, Faull was dominant, She took the loss as she threw 96 pitches, with 66 being strikes. Sienna Perez and Meghan Henry came in to pitch for a combined .3 innings as the Panthers' bats came alive.

Chapman did not let up when the game went to extra innings as they added eight runs, all in the top of the 8th. They had 13 total hits and although the Regals were not far being with 10, the Panthers were able to take better advantage.

Cal Lutheran Softball looks to get revenge on Saturday in a double header at Chapman at 12 and 2:30 p.m.
