Regals Drop Doubleheader Games to Chapman

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — After taking game one of the series on Friday night, Cal Lutheran softball lost both doubleheader games to Chapman on Saturday afternoon. The Regals were narrowly defeated 9-7 in game one, and got shutout 13-0 in game two.

On the schedule right now for the Regals, is 12 games, six each with Redlands and Chapman.

In game one, Ariana Mendoza led the way with five RBI. Madison Gunn, Mendoza, and Mia Onesto all had two hits apiece as the Regals tallied 10 hits in the game. Ashley Membrere showed off her speed and had an inside-the-park home run with a hit down the right field line. 

Cal Lutheran found itself in a hole early on and were down 7-1 after two innings. The Regals fired back with three runs in the fourth and two in the sixth. Gunn had a one-run double in the fourth, followed by a 2-run double from Mendoza. Mendoza then added a 2-run double in the sixth.

The Panthers answered the call scoring one run in the fifth and sixth, and stole the game 9-7.

Game two started out as a pitchers dual as neither team could score in the first two innings. 

Chapman broke through in the top of third, which opened the gates for one run in the fourth, four in the fifth and six in the sixth. The scoring total ended the game early as Chapman won 13-0 in sixth innings. 

Up next for the Regals is Redlands. The teams will play one game on Friday, at Cal Lutheran at 2 p.m.
