POMONA, Calif. — California Lutheran University men's golf competed in the second leg of the SCIAC Championships, SCIAC #2, on Saturday and Sunday at Mountain Meadows Golf Club.
The Kingsmen finished fourth at 17-over-par. They recorded a 302 in the first round and improved over 10 strokes with a 291 in the second for a total of 593 strokes. Their 291 was the third-lowest of the day as Cal Lutheran moved up two spots in the standings. The Kingsmen had the second-most birdies at the tournament with 38.
The teams played 36 holes at SCIAC #1, now 36 holes at SCIAC #2 and will cap conference play off with 54 holes at the SCIAC Championships. All nine teams competed with a total of 49 golfers. The Par for the course was 72. Teams had six golfers competing for the team score. A few teams had individuals playing.
JP Guimaraes Jr. finished with the best score for the Kingsmen. He was Even for his tournament and placed fifth . He shot a 1-under-par 71in the first and followed it up with a 73 in the second for a total of 144 strokes. Guimaraes Jr. tied for the most Pars with 24.
Derek Hahn fired a team-low 69 on the second day and moved up 17 spots into 13th. He shot a 78 during the first 18 and was 3-over-par with 147 strokes. Hahn led the Kingsmen and tied for the fourth-most birdies with nine.
Tanner Stewart was the third Kingsmen in the top-20 and tied for 18th at 6-over-par. He had a 77 over the first 18 and carded a 73 in the second as he moved up six spots spots. He recorded 150 strokes.
Also competing for the Kingsmen was Garet Needham as he tied for 27th at 10-over-par (76-78-154), Jot Singh tied for 33rd with 12-over-par (80-76-156) and Jimmy Solano was 42nd at 16-over-par (84-76-160).
The Kingsmen have one final tournament to make their case for the NCAA Championship. Cal Lutheran plays in the SCIAC Championship April 24-26 at Tukwet Canyon Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif.
