THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University honored its 2023 senior student-athletes at the Senior and Senior Scholar-Athlete Society banquet on Monday night. Cal Lutheran had 61 senior student-athletes that were inducted into the Scholar-Athlete Society.

The Cal Lutheran Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as chosen by a Faculty Athletic Mentor Policies Committee, were Nick Lasher of football and Bethany Metcalfe of women's water polo.

The California Lutheran University Scholar-Athlete Society was formed in 2003 by the Alumni Relations office. Its purpose is to recognize deserving student-athletes for their performances in the classroom. To qualify, a student-athlete must achieve at least a 3.4 undergraduate institutional GPA while participating on an athletic team at Cal Lutheran.

Cal Lutheran believes it is important to give special emphasis to students who are competing rigorously to achieve excellence in the classroom and in their chosen sport. The Kingsmen and Regals honored during the ceremony have each proven to bring equal dedication and discipline to both the classroom and chosen fields of play.

This year's graduating class made 25 SCIAC Tournament Appearances. 18 seniors have been named All-SCIAC at least once in their career. There was three SCIAC Character Award winners, three SCIAC Athletes of the Year. Teams won three SCIAC Tournament Championships and there were five SCIAC individual champions. There were nine All-Region honorees and one All-America honor.
