SPOKANE, Wash. — Cal Lutheran women's cross country traveled north and competed at the NCAA West Regional on Saturday afternoon. The Regals placed 19th with 559.
Whitworth University hosted the regional championship and the race was at Plantes Ferry Sports Complex. The race was run in the mid-30s with snow on the ground, a first some Cal Lutheran runners. The event featured 23 teams and 165 individuals.
Maraitzel Moreno Gutierrez was the first Regal to cross the finish line. At her first NCAA West Regional, she placed 89thwith a time of 24 minutes and 34.6 seconds.
Samira Negrete finished just outside the top 100 and was 103rd. She clocked a time of 25:08.6.
Cora Hautekeete made it three Regals in the top 115. She finished with a time of 25:24.8 and placed 113th.
Also competing for the Regals was Brooke Hougo and Dinkenesh Coltvet. Hougo was 142nd with 26:25.4 and Coltvet was 165th with 32:47.5.
The NCAA West Regional wrapped up the season for the Regals. With no seniors on the team, Cal Lutheran will bring an experienced group back next year.
