MOORPARK, Calif. — Maraitzel Moreno Gutierrez earned top finisher honors as the Cal Lutheran women's cross team was the runner-up at the Moorpark College Open.
The teams raced at Arroyo Vista Park. The Regals took second, one point behind first, with a score of 38.
Moreno Gutierrez led the way placing seventh with a time of 20 minutes and 46.73 seconds. It was her first collegiate race.
Taking ninth was Samira Negrete making it two regals in the top-10. She recorded a time of 21:04.31. Cora Hautekeete finished just outside the top-10, placing 11th, and clocking a time of 21:23.19.
Cal Lutheran made it four in the top-15 as Hailey Peters took 15th in her collegiate debut with a mark of 22:26.07.
Also competing for the Regals was Brooke Hougo (17th, 23:07.08), Dinkenesh Coltvet (21st, 23:48.46) and Gina Knight (28th, 25:09.47).
The Regals continue the season next week at the Vanguard Invite on Friday, Sept.9, at 9 a.m.
