Ereso Paces Regals with CLU Course Record

BREA, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran women's cross country team opened the 2018 season at the Mark Covert Classic Saturday morning and Rachel Ereso broke her own CLU course record at Carbon Canyon Regional Park. The Regals finished ninth as a team.

The team time for the course was much quicker this year than last years as the Regals shaved off two minutes and 49 seconds (top-5 runners). The fifth Cal Lutheran runner to finish had a faster time than the third runner from a year ago. 

Ereso led CLU with a time of 20:40.3 and finished 43rd. Her time was 29 seconds better than last years, and set the new CLU record for the course.  

Veronica Redpath competed in her first collegiate event with Cal Lutheran. She was the second Regal to finish and was 61stwith a time of 21:24.3. 

Four more Regals finished under the 25-minnute mark as Olivia Becker was 68th(22.05.7), Caroline Slate was 69th(22:12.5), Cameron Baggs was 70th(22:20.9) and Kylie Rodriguez was 83rd(23:29.4). It was the first collegiate race for Baggs and Slate. 

Sam Torres came in just after the 25-minute mark and in 91stwith a time of 25:04.3. It was also her first ever college cross country race. Stephanie Allen rounded out the team in 99th-place with 28:24.50.

The Regals continue the season at the UC Riverside Invitational on the UCR Agricultural Operations Course Sept. 15.
