Regals Water Polo Goes 2-0 on Opening Day

THOUSAND, Calif. – The women's water polo team opened the 2018 season with two wins as the Regals defeated Carthage and Cal State Monterey Bay 12-4 and 6-2, respectively, Friday afternoon at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.

CLU showed why they are the No. 3 team in the nation with some great offense and dominant defense.

Against Carthage, Kristi McGee led the team with four goals. Nicole Roed, Megan Seeman and Sam Wulfestieg each chipped in with two goals apiece. Christin Hirn and Mackenzie Thomas each added one more.

Nicole Guerriero moved the ball around and dished out three assists. Roed led the team with four steals.

Bailey Meyer and Gaby Renteria combined for the win. Meyer made nine saves while Renteria had three.

Up next for the Regals was Cal State Monterey Bay. McGee was on fire as she accounted for five goals, giving her nine on the day. Hirn added the other goal.

The defense was on point as the Regals totaled 13 steals. McGee led the Violet and Gold with three.

Meyer protected the cage for the whole game and tallied an impressive 14 saves, while only allowing two goals.

The Regals have three weeks off before they host the Tina Finali Invitational Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, in Samuelson Aquatics Center.
