Regals Record Highest Attack Percentage This Season; Sweep Oxy

LOS ANGELES— Cal Lutheran women's volleyball recorded its highest attack percentage of the season with .359 as they swept the Occidental Tigers 25-15, 25-19, 25-10 Friday night.

The Regals were on fire from the very beginning and hit .486 in the first set which set the tone for the match. The hot hitting continued as they recorded .206 in the second and .375 in the third as CLU recorded its fourth straight win.

Cal Lutheran improved to 16-10 overall and 10-5 in conference play as they held the Tigers to a .063 clip. The Regals shut down Oxy, holding them to -.033 and -.029 in the second and third sets, respectively.

Jenna Jones and Jennifer Kent kept the offense moving as both split time at the setter position. Jones impressed with an all-around game as she tallied 20 assists, five digs, two aces and one kill. Kent kept the fabulous play going at the position as she added 16 assists, three digs and an ace.

The offense was on point tonight as four Regals tallied at least six kills while hitting .350 or better. Samantha Landrum led the way with 11 kills, while hitting .375, and showed her defensive game with seven total blocks.

Kristine Fimlaid was next with seven kills and hit .500, Morgan Given was right behind her with six kills and a .429 percent and Maci Haddad matched Given with six and hit .357. Haddad also had great play at the net and contributed five blocks.

The all-around win continued to the defense where six different Regals recorded four or more digs. Jojo MacArthur hit double digits for the fifth time this year and put up 10, Carly Rose Howard was right behind her with nine, Lauren Heller was next with seven, Jones had her five and Landrum and Sarah Hein both had four.

The Regals took an early lead in the first, but Oxy kept it close as CLU was only up 13-10. Cal Lutheran used a 6-0 run to put distance as they ran away with the first set 25-15. Jones, Fimlaid (twice) and Landrum recorded kills while Julia Trento served an ace. The run gave the Regals momentum heading to the second set.

Occidental tried to answer in the second set and fought back from being down as they tied the set at 15. The Regals never allowed the Tigers to take the lead and a few plays later scored five straight to take a 22-17 lead. CLU coasted to a 25-19 victory, and carried the same play to the third, winning 25-10 and the match 3-0.

The Regals will try to close out the season with a win, and their fifth straight victory, as they wrap up the season at home. Cal Lutheran welcomes Redlands on Saturday for Senior Day with first serve set for 6 p.m.
