THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— Looking for their 19th NCAA Tournament appearance, and second in a row, the Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team has released its 2019 schedule which includes three tournaments and top-notch competition.
The Regals start the season with three tournaments before jumping into Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play.
CLU's 2019 campaign begins at the Pacific Coast Classic in Claremont, Calif., on Aug. 30 and Sept. 1. The tournament will be hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer. The Regals take on Augsburg (Minn.) and Wentworth (Mass.) on Friday at 11 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., respectively. They continue the tournament on Saturday with Wis.-Platteville at 9:30 a.m. and St. Olaf at 1:45.
Fans will get the first chance to see the 2019 Regals at home as they host their annual Cal Lu Fornia Invitational on September 6-7. On Friday, the Violet and Gold get UC Santa Cruz at 4:45 p.m. and then Texas Lutheran in the nightcap at 7. CLU continues on Saturday with Concordia (Texas) at 1:30 p.m. and Puget Sound (Wash.) at 6.
The next weekend, Cal Lutheran hits the road again for its final tournament of the fall and will be in St. Louis, Mo., for the East-West Challenge, from September 13-14. The Regals face tough competition and start the tournament on Friday with Trinity (Texas) which finished 2018 ranked 17th in the nation. The even bigger test will come Saturday as CLU starts the day with defending national champion, Emory, at 9:15 a.m. The Regals follow that up with Washington (Mo.) at 2:45 p.m.
After the three tournaments, the Regals start conference play which consists of 16 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matches. SCIAC play begins on Sept. 20 with Pomona-Pitzer and CLU's first home conference match is Sept. 21 against Occidental at 6 p.m.
The Regals play their next 14 conference games on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, with most of the times being set for 7 p.m. CLU ends the regular season on Nov. 2 as the Regals welcome Redlands for Senior Night at 6 p.m.
Postseason play starts Nov. 7 and 9 with the top four teams in the conference play advancing to the SCIAC Tournament. The NCAA Tournament starts Nov. 15 and ends Nov. 23 with the national championship taking place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
