Roberts Joins 1,000 Kills/1,000 Digs Club

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— Cal Lutheran's Amanda Roberts is just the fifth Regal since 1991, when CLU became a member of Division III, to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career. She accomplished the feat Saturday night as the Regals took on the Whittier Poets. The Poets won the matchup 3-1 (29-27, 16-25, 21-25, 20-25). 

Roberts joins the likes of Allie Eason (2012-15), Tracy Little (1993-96), Kylie McLogan (2011-13) and Summer Plante-Newman (2005-08). 

Roberts swatted down a match-high 19 kills to lead the Regals against Whittier. She tallied a double-double with a team-high 18 digs. 

Maci Haddad joined Roberts in the double-digit kills column. She swatted down 13 and had a hitting percentage of .455. She added six digs and three total blocks. Taylor Johnson was next with seven kills and Sarah Hein added six more. 

Steph Rolfson moved the ball around and dished out 39 assists. She added a double-double with 10 digs. Jennifer Kent chipped in with 14 assists.

Carly Rose Howard contributed with double-digit digs and tallied 11. She has recorded double-digit digs 20 times this year. 

The first set saw the Regals down 15-9. Four straight points from CLU cut the lead to two. Mackenzie Martinez, Haddad and Hein recorded kills during the run. The Regals pushed all the way back and toed the set at 19. The teams exchanged the points over the next plays and the set was eventually tied at 27. After an error from the Poets, Jordan MacArthur swatted down the final kill and Cal Lutheran won 29-27.

The next three sets continued to be tight, with the lead going back and forth multiple times. The Poets came out on top each time as they won 25-16, 25-12, and 25-20 in the next three sets, respectively. Whittier claimed the match 3-1.

Cal Lutheran (15-10, 9-5 SCIAC) have two games left in the regular season. The Regals are two games back of the second spot int he SCIAC and are one game ahead of the fifth and sixth spots. CLU is on the road next and plays Chapman Tuesday at 7 p.m.
