THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— It's that time of the year for the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational and No. 11 Cal Lutheran welcomes 11 teams to the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center for 24 games throughout Friday and Saturday.
The invitational includes Cal Lutheran, Chapman, Clarkson, Hardin-Simmons, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Pomona-Pitzer, Puget Sound, Redlands, Whitman, Whittier, Willamette and UC Santa Cruz. There will be two courts in Gilbert and one in Soiland.
The Regals open the tournament Friday at 3 p.m. against Hardin-Simmons. The Violet and Gold then take on Puget Sound later at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Cal Lutheran host Mary-Hardin Baylor at 1 p.m. and then Clarkson at 5 p.m. All four matches will be played in Gilbert Arena. Cal Lutheran opened the season 4-0 a week ago at the Pacific Coast Classic. The Regals knocked off No. 6 Johnson & Wales and No. 14 Carthage during the weekend.
Senior Amanda Roberts, SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week, leads Cal Lutheran with 3.07 kills per set. Sophomore Sarah Hein and senior Paris Dosch are next with 2.86 and 2.62, respectively. Freshman Maci Haddad makes it four Regals with at least two-plus kills per set with 2.08.
Keeping the offense moving is senior setter Steph Rolfson and she averages 8.38 assists per set. She adds 2.31 digs and 1.08 kills per set.
Junior libero Carly Rose Howard helps protect the back line with 4.40 digs per set. She was named to the Pacific Coast Classic All-Tournament Team. Hein and Roberts tally 2.86 and 2.71 digs, respectively. As a team, the Regals record 1.67 blocks per set.
