ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Announced on Monday by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) office, Cal Lutheran women's volleyball student-athlete Hope Stewart was selected to the All-SCIAC First Team while teammates Molly Holloway and Amanda Roberts were named to the Second Team.
Stewart, a senior outside hitter, earns First Team honors for the second consecutive season. The Oxnard, Calif., native led the Regals and was fourth in the SCIAC with 2.78 kills per set. She has accumulated 253 kills on the season with a hitting percentage of .213. She added 152 digs and 29 total blocks on the defensive end.
Senior middle blocker, Holloway, was a force around the net and totaled the 10th most blocks in the SCIAC with 62. The Lakewood, Calif., native swatted down 209 kills with a .295 clip. She led the team 28 services aces and added 48 digs and seven assists. This is Holloway's first All-SCIAC honor. She was also named a SCIAC Athlete of the Week during the year.
Roberts garnered her first All-SCIAC selection as she was named to the Second Team. A junior from Grass Valley, Calif., Roberts led the Regals and was fifth in the SCIAC with 257 kills. Roberts was all over the court as she tallied 287 digs, 26 service aces, 23 total blocks and 22 assists. She recorded 11 double-doubles with kills and digs, including five in a row.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Margaux Arntson was named the Athlete of the Year, while her coach, Kurt Vlasich, and his assistants were named the Coaching Staff of the Year. Ashley Whittall, freshman outside hitter from Whittier, was named the Newcomer of the Year.
Cal Lutheran (15-11, 10-6 SCIAC) earned the No. 3 seed for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. The Regals will travel to No. 2 La Verne Thursday for a match at 7 p.m. No. 1 CMS hosts No. 4 Chapman. The championship will be played at the highest remaining seed's location.
