Regals Sweep on Senior Night

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran University women's volleyball team celebrated senior night as the Regals swept Caltech (25-9, 25-9, 25-11) Friday night inside Gilbert Arena. Seniors Mikayla Dobson, Molly Holloway, Jamie Smith and Hope Stewart were honored before the game.

Cal Lutheran has now won seven matches in a row. With the win, there is a three-way tie for the second spot in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). The Regals are now 15-10 overall. They are tied with Whittier and La Verne with a 10-5 record in conference play. Each team has one conference game left.

The seniors did their fair share in the win as Stewart was second on the team with eight kills. She added six digs, one block assist, one assist and one service ace. Holloway contributed five kills, two assists and two digs. Smith kept the offense going with 16 assists and added four digs. Dobson contributed a team-high 12 digs and four assists.

Amanda Roberts led the team with nine kills and had a hitting percentage of .692. Paris Dosch and Daniella Villano each added five kills. Steph Rolfson had 14 assists and eight digs. Libero Emma Cisneros-Luebke added 10 digs and three assists.

The Beavers landed some early points, but the Regals took command and never looked back. The Regals scored eight straight points during the set and went on to win the first set 25-9. Roberts and Stewart led the Regals with five kills apiece. Carly Rose Howard landed an ace, while Smith contributed seven assists.

Cal Lutheran took an early 6-0 lead, but the Beavers broke up the shutout to get a couple of points in. Sarah Hein dropped in an ace late in the second set, as the Regals ran away with the second set (25-9). Roberts raised her kills to nine. Steward joined Hein adding a service ace of her own. Cisneros-Luebke had eight digs during the first two sets.

The Regals started off the third set with a 7-1 lead, but Caltech got two points in a row to lessen the distance. The Beavers won five out of six points in a row before the Violet and Gold took control, again. Cal Lutheran finished off the set, 25-11, and swept the Beavers.

Alexa Lauinger led Caltech with five kills and 11 digs. Rachel Ng and Isabell Yang served up an ace apiece. Yang also contributed defensively with 12 digs.

Cal Lutheran travels to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tomorrow night for a match at 6 p.m. It is the final SCIAC match of the regular season.
