Regals Win Sixth Straight Match

REDLANDS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team won its sixth straight match, fifth straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SCIAC) match, as the Regals defeated the Redlands Bulldogs 3-1 (25-14, 25-12, 20-25, 25-17) Tuesday night in Currier Gym.

The Regals improved to 14-10 overall and 9-5 in the SCIAC. With two games left, the Regals currently hold the fourth and final spot in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Chapman and Occidental are right behind Cal Lutheran With SCIAC records of 7-6.

Hope Stewart led the Regals with 11 kills and had a hitting percentage of .556. Molly Holloway, Amy McKee and Amanda Roberts each added nine kills in the win. Holloway hit with a .750 clip. Sarah Hein chipped in with six kills and served six aces. Jamie Smith and Steph Rolfson kept the offense moving with 21 and 17 digs, respectively.

Defensively, libero Emma Cisneros-Luebke tallied a team-high 14 digs. Roberts made it two Regals with double-digit digs as she added 10. Hein had nine digs, Smith recorded eight and Rolfson added seven more. Holloway was a force around the net and tallied five block assists. Stewart tallied three block assists and Roberts had two.

CLU started the first set on a 6-2 run as Roberts and McKee each had a kill while Hein added a service ace. The Regal kept the distance and led 12-8 later in the set. CLU pushed the lead to six, 16-10, after a McKee kill and then a block assist from Paris Dosch and McKee. The Regals used that momentum and went on to win the first set 25-14. Holloway and McKee led the squad with four kills apiece in the set. Holloway hit with an .800 clip and McKee hit .500.

The second set started much closer before the Regals put some distance between the Bulldogs and were up 10-3. The score was 4-3 before the six-point run by CLU. Stewart swatted down a kill during the run and then combined with Holloway for a block assist. The Regals really turned it on in the second set and won 25-12. Five different Regals had three-plus kills after the second set.

The third set was tied three time early on. With the score tied at six, the Regals scored four straight points to take the lead. Stewart and Holloway each had a kill and then combined for a block. With Redlands down 15-12, the Bulldogs scored six straight points and took an 18-15 lead. Redlands avoided the sweep and won the fourth set 25-19.

After the set three loss, the Regals came out on fire and had a 5-1 lead to start the fourth set. Hein had two service aces and a kill during the spurt. The Regals kept the pressure on and ran away with the fourth set, 25-17 , and the match 3-1.

Up next for the Cal Lutheran is Caltech as the Regals host the Beavers for Senior Night Friday at 7 p.m. in Gilbert Arena.
