THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The seven-time defending Cal Lutheran women's volleyball program has released its 2017 schedule that features the 10th Annual Cal Lu Fornia Invitational as well as 11 additional individual home dates.
For the first time five years, CLU will begin its campaign out of state as the Regals travel to Texas for the Trinity National Tournament on opening weekend. Cal Lutheran is set to play the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, Whitman (Wash.), Calvin (Mich.) and host Trinity on Sept. 1-2.
Upon returning to the West coast, the Violet and Gold hosts NAIA powerhouse Westmont at 7:30 p.m. inside the Gilbert Arena where home fans will have an opportunity to see the 2017 squad for the first time.
Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9, the Regals will host the eight-team Cal Lu Fornia Invitational at the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center. CLU is scheduled to meet UC Santa Cruz and Whitworth (Wash.) on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. before returning to the courts on Saturday to take on Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) at 2:00 p.m. and Trinity at 6:00 p.m.
Cal Lutheran then jumps right into Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play, opening things on the road at La Verne on Friday, Sept. 15 with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The next night, Sept. 16, the Regals kick off a three-match home stand with competition against Chapman (Sept. 16), Pomona-Pitzer (Sept. 19) and Occidental (Sept. 22). All three meetings will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The Regals alternate road and home matches at Whittier (Sept. 23), versus Redlands (Sept. 29) and at Caltech (Sept. 30) over the next three playing dates to close out the first round of action.
The second round of play also alternates home and away contests with the Violet and Gold playing on their home court against LV (Oct. 10), PP (Oct. 14), WC (Oct. 20), and CIT (Oct. 27), which also serves as Senior Night. Additionally, CLU will host UCSC in a final non-conference match on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 6:00 p.m.
On Oct. 13, Cal Lutheran travels to Chapman, on Oct. 17 they head to Occidental, on Oct. 24 the trek to Redlands takes place and to close out the regular season the team travels to rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 28.
All SCIAC weekday matches are set for 7:00 p.m. while teams take the floor at 6:00 p.m. during Saturday competition dates.
Nov. 2 and 4 the SCIAC Postseason Tournament will take place at the site of the SCIAC regular season champion with the tournament victor earning the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Playoffs. NCAA DIII Regionals are scheduled for Nov. 10-12 at sites yet to be determined while the NCAA DIII National Championships will take place in Grand Rapids, Mich. from Nov. 16-18.
