CLAREMONT, Calif. — The California Lutheran University women's track and field team competed at the 34th annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational at the Strehle Track on the campus of Pomona College on Saturday.
Zaria Opara continued her stellar season in throwing events as she improved her distance in two events on the program's top-10 list. She was the runner-up in the hammer, and moved up to fifth all-time, with a distance of 47.70 meters. She moved to 10th all-time in the shot put and took sixth at the invite with 11.26m. She made it three events in the top-10 and was fourth in the discus with 40.16m.
Samira Negrete improved her time on the top-10 list in the 800 meter run. She moved up to ninth on the top-10 list, and placed 14th at the meet, with a time of 2:20.44.
The Regals kept top marks coming as Lexi Cox and Hannah Sewall both took seventh in their events. Cox had a distance of 9.94m and Sewall recorded a time of 1:09.54 in the 400 meter hurdles.
Sarah Bjornson was the top Regal performer in her event and finished in the top-10 of the high jump. She cleared a distance of 1.50m and took 10th.
More top performers in each event were Claire Caldera in the javelin (13th, 27.06m), Jasmyne Santamaria Holliday in the 100 meter dash (16th, 12.79), Jolie Caya in the 100 meter hurdles (20th, 16.40), Cora Hautekeete in the 1,500 meter run (39th, 5:17.04) and Cassidy Fukuda in the 400 meter dash (25th, 1:06.21).
The Regals also competed in the 4x100 relay. Caya, Holliday, Sewall and Cox combined for fourth with a time of 51.11
The Regals continue the season with the SCIAC Multi-Dual #3 next Saturday at 10 a.m.
