Bjornson, Caya, Redpath Break into Record Book at Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic

PASADENA, Calif. — Sarah Bjornson, Jolie Caya and Veronica Redpath all broke into the program's top-10 list as California Lutheran University women's track and field competed at the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic on Saturday. 

Redpath raced to the fourth-best time in program history for the 5000 meter run as she recorded a time of 18 minutes and 17.95 seconds. She placed 38th at the event. 

Caya and Bjornson both broke into the record book and sit 10th all-time. Bjornson is now 10th all-time in the pole vault with 2.83 meters and Caya is 10th in the 100-meter hurdles with 15.69. 

Bjornson placed eighth in the pole vault. She was also fourth in the high jump with 1.50 meters and 12th in the 100-meter hurdles with 17.11. 

Caya was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles as she set her top-10 mark. She was also seventh in the long jump with 4.65 meters. 

The Regals turned in three more top-10 marks at the classic. Zaria Opara was fourth in the hammer with 41.88 meters, Claire Caldera was seventh in the javelin with 28.10 meters and McKenzie Gerken was ninth in discus with 36.03 meters. 

Opara continued in throwing events and was 10th in the shot put with 10.34 meters. Samira Negrete just missed the record book as she was 12th in the 800-meter run with 2:21.26. Jasmyne Santamaria Holliday placed 20th in the 100-meter dash with 13:15. 

The Regals also competed in the 4x100 meter relay as the team of Caya, Lexi Cox, Santamaria Holliday and Samantha Carranza were sixth with 51.25.

Cal Lutheran is back in action this next weekend on Friday at the Redlands Invitational.
