Opara Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Zaria Opara was selected as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

Opara (Carnation, Wash.) earned her first career SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor and was named the Field Athlete of the Week. 

Opara was terrific in the field events for Cal Lutheran during SCIAC No. 1 as the Regals competed against Caltech, Occidental, and Pomona-Pitzer. The junior won the hammer throw with a mark of 42.14 meters, was also second in the shot put throw with a toss of 10.06 meters, and finished third in the discus throw with a throw of 32.64 meters.

The Regals defeated Occidental for the first time since 2014.
