Regals Compete at Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers; Caya, Opara are Runner-Up

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The California Lutheran University women's track & field team traveled for their second meet of the season and competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers on Saturday.  

Jolie Caya, Samira Negrete, and Veronica Redpath all won their heat and Caya (long jump) and Redpath (3,000-meter run) both nearly missed getting into the top-10 all-time record book. 

Caya was the runner up in the long jump and recorded a distance of 5.20 meters. She then placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with 1:17.21 and was 14th in the 100-meter hurdles with 16.58. 

Negrete won her heat and placed eight in the mile with a quick time of 5:25.18. Redpath then won her heat and placed 17th in the 3,000m with 10:49.76.

Zaria Opara competed in all throwing events and was runner up in the hammer with 40.76m. She placed fourth in the discus and eighth in the shot put with 34.25m and 10.00m, respectively. 

In the triple jump, Lexi Cox made her mark and placed fifth 9.94m. Sarah Bjornson and Claire Caldera took 11th in their events. Bjornson had 1.50m in the long jump and Caldera threw 29.63m in the javelin. 

Cassidy Fukuda was the top Regal in the 400-meter dash and finished with a time of 1:07.84. Jasmyne Santamaria Holiday ran the 200-meters and was 34th with 28.42. 

Next up for the Regals is SCIAC Multi-Dual #1 on March 5th and it starts at 10 a.m.
