GENEVA, Ohio — Senior Kelsey Rouse wrapped up her second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Friday afternoon, finishing 21st in the heptathlon with 4,307 points.
The Moorpark-native is just the second Regal in Cal Lutheran Division III history to qualify for nationals in back-to-back seasons in the heptathlon and the latest since Pam Beaver in 1991 and 1992.
Adding on to her total of 2,612 points from the first four events, Rouse added 1,695 points on day two. She cleared 5.35 meters in the long jump for 657 points, added 475 more with a 29.93-meter javelin throw, and completed her weekend with 563 points on a 2:40.87 800-meter run.
On day one, Rouse opened the meet with the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 15.59 seconds for 765 points. She added 632 points clearing 1.51 meters in the high jump and 465 points with a lifetime-best 9.01 meters in the shotput. Rounding out her day, Rouse claimed 750 points in the 200-meter dash.
Last year, Rouse finished 20th at the 2018 NCAA Championships with 4,010 points, and this season she entered championship weekend with the second-best point total in program history - 4,489 points accrued at the Redlands Final Qualifier.
Rouse closes her career as a three-time All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree, two-time national qualifier in the heptathlon, and the 2019 Jennifer Stary Character Award winner.
