Guidetti Posts Best Long Jump Finish in CLU NCAA Championship History

GENEVA, Ohio — Junior Kendall Guidetti made history Thursday evening, finishing tenth in the long jump on day one of the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the highest finish in the event on the NCAA stage in Cal Lutheran history. Alongside her, senior Kelsey Rouse is currently 21st in the heptathlon after the first four events. 

After finishing 22nd in the long jump at the 2017 national championships, Guidetti rose this season to tenth after leaping 5.70 meters on her third attempt. The three-time SCIAC long jump champion additionally beats out former Regal Amanda Hamilton for the best finish at NCAA Championships in the long jump, who finished 11th in 2016. 

Though she wraps up her 2019 season, Guidetti made her mark this year with her third consecutive conference long jump title and recording the program record of 5.85 meters at the Redlands Final Qualifier. She additionally recorded the fifth best time in program history in the 100-meter dash at 12.27 seconds and was part of the eight best time in the 4x100 meter relay at 48.94 seconds. 

Also in her second national championship appearance, Rouse currently sits in 21st in the heptathlon with 2,612 points after the first four events. She opened the morning with the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 15.59 seconds for 765 points. She added 632 points clearing 1.51 meters in the high jump and 465 points with a lifetime-best 9.01 meters in the shotput. Rounding out her day, Rouse claimed 750 points in the 200-meter dash. 

Rouse completes the final three events of the heptathlon – long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run – tomorrow on day two of the NCAA Division III Championships.
