CLAREMONT, Calif. — Paving the way for the Cal Lutheran Regals, senior Alexa Barnes, senior Kelsey Rouse and junior Kendall Guidetti made their way to the podium on the final day of the 2019 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
After taking second in last year's competition, Barnes made her way to the top of the podium in the discus throw this season. The senior threw for 41.80 meters, not only a lifetime PR, but also the third best mark in program history. She additionally took fifth in the shot put with another career-best 11.17 meters.
Also moving up in the program's all-time list, Rouse cleared a lifetime-best 1.62 meters in the high jump to take second in the event and rise to third in Cal Lutheran's record books. She later took ninth in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 15.68 seconds.
Rounding out the trio of top finishers, Guidetti made her way to the podium for the second day in a row, this time for second in the 100-meter dash at 12.37 seconds.
In the afternoon's relay competitions, Guidetti and Rouse joined freshman Samantha Carranza and junior Ana Cordoba for fourth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 49.12 seconds. Rouse, Carranza and Cordoba later united with freshman Denaya Wickett to finish eighth in the 4x400 relay at 4:15.39.
Moving on to the distance races, junior Rachel Ereso finished eighth (4:58.41) and freshman Veronica Redpath finished 10th (5:04.68) in the 1500-meter run, while freshman Caroline Slate took 33rd (20:28.31) and senior Sarah Parsons took 37th (20:47.40) in the 5000-meter.
Closing out the day's competitors, junior Morgan Snyder took eighth in the triple jump at 10.71 meters and 18th in the high jump at 1.32 meters. Also in the triple jump, freshman Brittany Toney finished in 18th, landing 9.36 meters into the pit.
The season is not over yet, though, for Cal Lutheran as the team heads to Los Angeles on Saturday, May 11, for the Occidental Invitational.
