THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran Women's Track & Field team heads to Burns Track Complex in Claremont, California, this weekend for the 2019 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on April 27-28.
As it stands, the Regals are in sixth place in the conference standings with three dual points. Their results from this weekend's championships will be added to their dual points to determine their final conference standings.
"I know that all of us are very excited and ready to go this weekend. For the most part, we are very healthy and that will bode well for us heading into the biggest meet of our season," said head coach Matt Lea.
Amongst the throwers, keep an eye out for three-time SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week, senior Alexa Barnes, who has claimed the hammer title and discus title twice already this season, amongst her 11 top-three finishes.
Also in the field events, junior pole vaulters Megan Pollock and Kayla Cross have made their marks in the program's all-time record books this season. Pollock rose to fourth in the all-time list, clearing 3.20 meters at the SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 3, while Cross moved up to sixth with a 3.10-meter mark at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
Crossing over between the track and field events, senior Kelsey Rouse and junior Kendall Guidetti have notched their fair share of titles this season. Rouse is currently 13th in the nation in the heptathlon with her 4,441-point performance at the Jim Klein Combined Events meet. In the individual events, has finished first in the high jump twice and once in the 4x100 relay. She additionally recorded five lifetime personal bests to move up to fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, sixth in the high jump, sixth in the long jump, sixth in the javelin, and eighth in the 4x100 relay.
Guidetti has claimed four titles of her own, including a sweep of the 100-meter dash, long jump and 4x100 relay at the SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 2. The junior is currently 19th in the nation with her 5.56-meter long jump and 23rd 100-meter dash at 12.27 seconds, both recorded at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
Rounding out the track crew, junior Ana Cordoba holds the team's top time in the 200-meter dash at 26.02 seconds and freshman Denaya Wickett leads the team with a 1:02.84 400-meter time. Moving on to distance events, freshman Veronica Redpath leads the team's performances in the 1500-meter, mile, 3000-meter and 3000-meter steeplechase. Her 12:35.64 time in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the OXY Distance Carnival also wrote her name into the program record books at the seven-spot.
Also amongst the distance racers, junior Rachel Ereso rose to fourth in the program books with her team-leading 18:24.37 time in the 5000-meter run, and freshman Caroline Slate slid into eighth with her team-best 42:20.36 10,000-meter run.
