Beavers Take Care of Regals

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran's Gianna Cupo and Christie Kurdys won at the No. 1 singles spot, but the Regals lost to the Caltech Beavers 8-1 Friday afternoon at the Poulson Tennis Courts.

The Regals lone point came from one of the three doubles matches. Caltech took the early lead as Jade Moore and Merissa Souza fell at the No. 3 spot (1-8). Cal Lutheran then tied the match as Kurdys and Cupo claimed the No. 1 (2-8). The Beavers took the 2-1 advantage after doubles as Annette Sousa and Nicole Neumann fell at the No. 3 (6-8).

Caltech took control of the match at the start of singles play. Neumann lost at the No. 5 spot (1-6, 0-6), Sousa was defeated at the No. 4 (2-6, 2-6) and then the Beavers won the match as Moore took the loss at the No. 6 (0-6, 3-6).

The Beavers swept the rest of singles play as Seeman fell at the No. 2 (1-6, 3-6), Cupo retired at the No. 3 (6-7, 1-2) and Kurdys lost at the No. 1 (6-2, 4-6, 5-10).

Cal Lutheran (4-12, 1-5 SCIAC) concludes its season Saturday. The Regals head to Whittier, Calif., and take on the Poets at 10 a.m.
