Regals Lose to Redlands, Defeat Whittier in Dramatic Final Relay

REDLANDS, Calif. — California Lutheran University women's swim team traveled to Redlands for a tri-meet that saw the Regals lose to the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands and defeat the Whittier College Poets in dramatic fashion.

Alice Peterson was the sole Regal to reach the podium in the 100-yard disciplines as she placed second in the 100-yard back stroke with a time of 1:02.37.

It was in the 200-yard races that Cal Lutheran was able to really establish itself and score points as a team. Peterson won both the freestyle (1:59.82) and the backstroke (2:14.57). Nektaria Anagnostou made her presence known by taking 3rd place in both the 200 breast stroke (2:36.45) and the individual medley (2:21.15).

Kendall Moffitt made the distance events her own by taking first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:24.83 and also winning the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:44.72. Eve Miyagishima's 19:44.72 was good enough for her to join her teammate on the podium with a 3rd place finish in the 1650 freestyle.

With the result of the meet still in the balance, the team lined up for the final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay. In a dramatic finish that saw the relay team from Whittier disqualified, the Regals team of Petersen, Kyrie Fairbairn, Kendall Moffitt, and Brieyana Walton posted a time of 1:42.45 to take second and hold on to the win over the Poets.

The Regals will look to bring that team effort into the SCIAC Championships next weekend February 12th.
