Regals Ready to Jump in the Pool

THOUSAND OAKS , Calif. — The California Lutheran University women's swim and dive team did not get a regular season in 2020-21. The Regals are looking to make up for lost time.

The 2021-22 Purple and Gold are returning a good core of Regals, 13, that are ready to make some noise in the SCIAC. The team also welcomed four newcomers, eager to prove what they can do.

Roster | Schedule

The Regals start the 2021-22 season on Saturday at the Malibu Invite. We talked with Head Coach Barry Schreifels about the upcoming year.

Your team saw some action last year, how has that helped you going into the new season?
Having the opportunity to compete in several meets last season was critical to the development of the team. The swimmers were able to practice hard and achieved several all-time top 10 list swims.

What can you tell us about the returning class, which Regals should we be looking out for?
The returning class is led by Alice Peterson. She is a factor on every relay and is looking to make an impact at the SCIAC championship in the Spring. The team also returns several CLU record holders who are looking to better their marks in CLU swim history.

Then you have the incoming class, who can make noise in the pool?
The incoming class is talented and has a diverse set of skills among the athletes. CLU will rely on Malia Yim to score big diving points throughout the season. Kendall Moffitt will look to challenge the best SCIAC distance swimmers in every meet and especially at the SCIAC championship.

What can you tell us about your schedule, what meets are you looking forward to?
CLU has a rounded schedule with Division III, D-II, and D-I opponents. Our rival teams in the SCIAC conference will present excellent competition as the team pushes for the NCAA Championship in Indianapolis in the Spring.

What are your thoughts about the season? What can we expect from the team?
The expectations are high for the team this season. With the returning talent and the ability of the newcomers, including diving, the team will look to compete strongly all year. The focus is the SCIAC Swim Championship and with a season of strong training that is where the CLU team will make a giant splash!
