LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – Five Cal Lutheran Regals were named to the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference list, released Tuesday morning, following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.
Sophomore keeper Gabby Flores and junior defender Zandra Stewart earned first team accolades for their performances in the team's 13 shutouts on the year, including the team's last seven consecutive contests. Senior midfielder Sarah Tadeusiak, freshman forward Danielle Vis and senior defender Nina Winsick were also recognized to the all-conference second team.
In her 1,025 minutes between the posts, Flores has allowed just two goals in 12 games played. The keeper leads the nation for NCAA Division III women's soccer in both goals against average (.176) and in save percentage (.957).
In front of her, Stewart has led the backline, playing in all 17 contests this season. The center back has held opponents to just a .032 shot percentage and .29 goals per game. She additionally recorded an assist against Chapman, taking advantage of a free kick from 30 yards out to find junior Maddy Griess in the box for the score.
Joining Stewart in the backline, Winsick has also proven to be a defensive staple. The graduate student has thwarted attempt after attempt, allowing opponents just five goals all season in comparison to Cal Lutheran's 33.
In the midfield, Tadeusiak garners all-conference honors for the third consecutive year. Her leadership as team captain the last two seasons has led the program to a 26-6-8 overall record and its first appearance in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. In addition to winning nearly every header in the midfield, the senior has produced two goals for Cal Lutheran this year against La Verne and UC Santa Cruz.
Rounding out the group, freshman standout Vis has earned her spot in the starting lineup, recording three goals in her last eight contests to send the team into playoffs with an eight-game undefeated streak. The forward's speed has defenders falling behind her, leading to her two assists on the season and team-leading 14 shots on goal.
The five have combined to lead the Regals to an overall 10-2-5 record and 8-2-4 record in conference play this season. Cal Lutheran now turns its attention to the first round of SCIAC playoffs on Wednesday, October 31, against the Occidental Tigers at 7 p.m.
