Regals Take Tigers To 110

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran Regals took the Occidental Tigers to double overtime Saturday night, with nine Regals finding opportunities to score. After the 110-minute conference match-up, the game resulted in a 0-0 tie moving the Regals to a 4-2-3 record in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Though Occidental out-shot the Regals in the first half six to four, the Regals' defensive pressure kept the Tigers scoreless.

In the 10th minute, senior Emily Williams broke through a crowd of defenders to find junior Trinity Martinez down the right field line pushing past her defender. Williams with a quick pass led Martinez to the start of the box who then crossed the ball to senior Sarah Tadeusiak who rifled off a shot, but straight to the keeper.

One minute later, freshman Danielle Vis took control of the left side line and drove past two defenders to find junior Maddy Griess in the middle who firesda shot just right of the posts, keeping the score tied 0-0.

Occidental responded with a cross from the right side, followed by three more shots all saved by sophomore goalkeeper, Gabby Flores

Keen on scoring, junior Kristina Spaur fired a shot off outside the box with a little over ten to play in the first period, but had her attempt blocked, taking the scoreless game into the second half.

Five minutes into the second half, Martinez crossed a ball from the right side to Vis who ripped a wide shot that just missed the goal.

Immediately, the Tigers countered with two more shots that were captured by Cal Lutheran's keeper, adding two more saves of six for Flores in the second half.

Off a loose ball, sophomore Mackenzie Boulware broke through the middle of the field before passing the ball to Tadeusiak who chipped the ball to Martinez on the right side. Martinez then dribbled past two defenders and popped the ball over the opponent's midfielder to freshman forward Aly Legrand who then fired a shot that was saved by the Tiger's goalie.

With just seconds on the clock, the lights at William Rolland Stadium shut off taking the game into golden goal overtime.

Hungry to finish the game, the newly energized Regals came out strong with two more shots on goal both by sophomore Alexandra Fagerberg that failed to hit the back of the net, taking the game into double overtime.

In the 108th minute, Vis took control of a loose ball before crossing the ball to sophomore Sam Cornejo positioned just outside the left goal post. Cornejo then jumped for the ball and shot it left of the posts, leaving the game scoreless after 110 minutes.

Cal Lutheran continues conference play this Wednesday, October 10, against the Caltech Beavers at 7:00 p.m. PST inside William Rolland Stadium.
