ORANGE, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran Regals outscored the Chapman Panthers Wednesday afternoon 4-2 in a second half shootout with four different Regals finding the back of the net during the 90-minute conference match-up.

Though the Panthers outshot the Regals five to four in the first half, the Regals did not give them any opportunity to score due to the hands of Cal Lutheran's sophomore keeper Gabby Flores

In the 22nd minute, junior Kristina Spaur saw an opportunity to put the Regals on the board with a shot on goal from the left side of the field, but was blocked by the Panthers keeper and the ball bounced out of bounds for a corner.  Freshman Danielle Vis took the corner kick from the right side and crossed it to the middle, but right into the hands of the keeper who vacated the goal.

At the 39th minute mark, junior Trinity Martinez served a pass to freshman Aly Legrand in the center of the field, who fired a shot just left of the goal posts, keeping the score tied 0-0.

Immediately after, freshman Mackenzie Boulware looked to have the first goal of the game. Out of luck, Panthers' goalie plucked it out of the air to end the first half.

Hungry to score, Martinez took back-to-back shots from the 40-yard line trying to break the tie between conference rivals. Unfortunately, neither shot made it past the keeper and the game remained scoreless.

Driving up the field, Spaur crossed the ball high to the middle of the box to Vis who headed it to the back of the net, finally putting the Regals on the board 1-0 in the 52nd minute. The Panthers quickly answered back just minutes later with a shot by Taylor Scranton arching high from the left and hitting the post to rebound into the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1.

In the 60th minute, junior Zandra Stewart took advantage of an open look at goal with a 30-yard free kick from the left side of the field, finding junior Maddy Griess who scored the second goal of the night, bringing the Regals up 2-1.

The Regals quickly took to defense as the Panthers front line pushed up the field. With a cross to the middle, Chapman's attacker put up a shot on goal toward second-half Regals keeper Alexa Soto, who jumped on the ball, but was unsuccessful in stopping it from hitting the back of the net, tying the game 2-2 in the 73rd minute.

Not long after, Martinez rolled a pass to freshman Sonia Chan in the middle of the field, who popped the ball perfectly over the Panthers goalie hitting the top of the net for another Regals' goal in the 83rd minute, bringing the score to 3-2.

Just before the 90-minute mark, sophomore Sam Cornejo and Vis took the ball down the field with a beautiful passing game, driving to the box and capped the match with another goal by Cornejo just as the final horn blew.

The 4-2 victory moves Cal Lutheran to 5-2-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play. They return to William Rolland Stadium this Saturday, October 6, against the Occidental Tigers at 7 p.m. PST.
