Regals Lacrosse Releases Inaugural Roster for 2020 Season

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Head Coach Laura McIntyre and the Cal Lutheran women's lacrosse team are gearing up for the upcoming 2020 season. The brand-new program welcomes 14 new student-athletes who are eager to compete in the inaugural season for the Purple and Gold.

"We're really excited about the first season and the girls have put in a lot of work, on and off the field," McIntyre said. "We've got a lot of young players, and because they are young, they don't know what to fear which is very exciting. They are definitely ready to go and ready to push. We know there will be struggles but we are ready to push through them and learn with every game that we have."

The Regals are indeed very young as the roster will not contain any seniors. Three juniors, four sophomores and seven freshmen make up Cal Lutheran's young squad.

Despite the obvious youth on the depth chart, experienced juniors Cameron Mendez, Sarah Teruya and Sarah Mendez will look to provide leadership for the younger, and perhaps more inexperienced, student-athletes.

"We have several players who are brand new to the sport, but the players who have played before bring a lot of good experience from their high school and talented club teams as well," McIntyre said.

The sophomore class contains three midfielders/defenders in Sloan Sanders, Jazren Mojica and Arianna Henry-Brooks as well as one goaltender, Carly Boccia.

Making up half of the Regals' roster will be seven freshmen competing at the collegiate level for the first time. They will include Arielle Esparza, Skylar Purvis, Shelby Ingram, Gehssa Gorospe, Malia Byun, Victoria Marquez and Dylan Gallagher.

Cal Lutheran will play their first-ever match when they take on Redlands Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. inside William Rolland Stadium.
